Hello!
Hi, I’m Sheila Lina. It’s lovely to meet you. Thanks for dropping by.
I’m a 37 year old entrepreneur, writer, and yoga teacher based in Manila, Philippines. I also lead a non-profit called Society for Spiritual Awakening, which promotes Christ-centered meditation and spiritual development.
I was the Founder and CEO of Shopinas, an e-commerce platform. Concurrently, I was the President of Dun & Bradstreet Philippines until I successfully sold the business.
I also happen to be a COO, Child of Owner. My father is Bert Lina, who together with my mother Sylvia, founded Air21, one of the Philippine’s top logistics companies. My lovely sisters (April, Donna and Bertha) and I have been blessed with tremendous privilege and a loving family life.
Nonetheless, I’m no stranger to 2nd generation angst as I’ve had to learn how to reconcile my personal aspirations with my family’s expectations.
As a recovering perfectionist/control freak/Type A overachiever, I’ve struggled to find the right balance between pushing myself to excel and being kind to myself. Through the years, I’ve geeked out with various fitness programs, diets, and productivity systems in my relentless quest for personal growth. Nowadays, I’ve taken a more relaxed approach and have found what works for me to stay sane and healthy.
I’d like to reach out to people who have the same struggles and share what has been helpful for me. If that’s you, then welcome!
So, what is The New 5S?
If you’ve ever worked a corporate or manufacturing job, you’d likely know about The 5 S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsi and Shitsuke). It’s a Japanese organization method pre-Marie Kondo.
The New 5S is my holistic framework for being an awesome leader.
Strategy. Systems. Spirituality. Self-care. Silliness.
To lead people you need to know what you’re doing and have a plan. Strategy.
You also need to build the environment, processes and culture to execute the plan. Systems.
Most importantly, you need to align yourself with a force bigger than yourself otherwise you’d devolve into an evil mofo. Spirituality.
Burn out is real. You need to protect your most valuable asset, which is you. Self-care.
And you need to have fun and not take yourself seriously, otherwise, what the hell is the point? Silliness.
I’ll be sharing my hot takes on leadership, personal development, and wellness.
Why a free newsletter?
Because I want to build a direct relationship with you, dear reader. As long as you remain subscribed and keep the same email address that you subscribed with, then we will remain in touch. Every new piece that I write goes straight to your inbox and you don’t have to worry about missing anything.
Sometime in the future, I may be inspired to write a book. Writing this newsletter is my way of preparing for that possibility, by cultivating both my writing skills and the audience for that book.
I’ve started and abandoned a bunch of blogs and websites. For once, I’d like to be able to stick to something and make it grow. Substack is a pretty elegant and low-friction platform to do this.
I’m also very curious about this newsletter trend and want to see how it works firsthand.
How often will you post?
I pinky promise to post once a week every Tuesday at 9 a.m. (GMT+8) In the event that I get motivated to do more than that, then it’s a bonus. If I fail to deliver, I will live in shame until I post again.
Okiedokie. See you later, then!
Ok, bye!
